Somers Veterans & Families Legacy Park Project APPROVED - Your Invited!

MILESTONE ANNOUNCEMENT
Somers Veterans & Families Legacy Park Project
(A.K.A. Somers Veterans Memorial Park & Healing Garden)

The Somers Veterans & Families Legacy Park Ad Hoc Committee and the Somers Department of Veterans Affairs are proud to announce that the proposed Somers Veterans & Families Legacy Park project has officially received approval through the Town of Somers Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) process.

This marks a major milestone in the continued effort to establish a lasting place of remembrance, healing, reflection, education, and community connection honoring veterans, military families, caregivers, and future generations.

The project — also known as the Somers Veterans Memorial Park & Healing Garden — is envisioned as a meaningful community space where stories of service, sacrifice, resilience, and patriotism can be honored and preserved for generations to come.

This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication, volunteer service, and collaboration of many individuals and organizations, including:

• Members of the Somers Veterans & Families Legacy Park Ad Hoc Committee;

• The Somers Department of Veterans Affairs;
• The Town of Somers;
• The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Committee;
• Community supporters and veterans' organizations;
• Todd Rolland, Town Liaison;
• Joshua and Gabrielle Guertin, project architects;
• And the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving / Somers Greater Together Community Fund for providing the project’s initial grant support.

With CIP approval now achieved, the committee will begin transitioning into the next phase of the project, including:

• Construction-related planning;
• Estimating and engineering coordination;
• Fundraising and community partnerships;
• And continued public engagement efforts.

As part of this next chapter, the committee is also proud to introduce the newly formed nonprofit organization:

Legacy of Service: Somers Veterans Foundation, Inc.
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization

The foundation will help support fundraising and long-term development efforts associated with the Somers Veterans & Families Legacy Park project and other veteran-focused community initiatives.

Community members are invited to learn more during the upcoming Somers Veterans Coffeehouse on:

Saturday, May 30, 2026
8:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Somers Town Hall Auditorium
600 Main Street
Somers, Connecticut

This special Coffeehouse gathering will:
• Honor those who have served;
• Support our nation’s warfighters;
• Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary;
• And introduce the community to the Legacy of Service: Somers Veterans Foundation, Inc.

The committee extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who has helped move this vision forward. While much work remains ahead, this milestone demonstrates what can be accomplished when a community comes together with purpose, service, and heart.

Every Story Matters.

Together, we honor the past, support the present, and build a lasting legacy for the future.
