Connecticut State Trooper Faces DUI Charges Following Crash With Truck

State police conducting investigation following Friday night accident in Ellington.

A Connecticut state trooper faces DUI charges and is being investigated by state police after being involved in a crash Friday night in Ellington, according to WFSB 3.

Christopher Powers, 42, who worked out of Troop C in Tolland, was arrested over the weekend after allegedly swerving into oncoming traffic and crashing into a truck around 7:30 p.m. Friday night, according to WFSB 3. Powers reportedly failed a field sobriety test after the crash.

WFSB 3 reports that Powers is doing “desk work” until the investigation is complete.

The driver of the truck, John Haley, told Eyewitness News that he saw the cruiser speeding toward him on Route 140 before it crashed and flipped.

Powers, who suffered only minor injuries, was charged with DUI and failure to drive right. He was released on a $500 bond and is due in court next week.
