SOMERS, CT — A United Bank automated teller machine which sustained heavy damage from a pickup truck during an apparent larceny attempt nearly four months ago will not be replaced, according to a bank official.

The ATM, located at the southern edge of the Southfield Commons shopping plaza near the junction of South and Field roads, was the subject of repeated ramming by a pickup truck at 10:44 a.m. on April 1. At the time, bank officials said the ATM "would be closed indefinitely."

The incident is still being investigated by Connecticut State Police.

On Monday, in response to a query from Patch, Adam Jeamel, Eastern Connecticut Regional President and Head of Corporate Communications for the bank, said, "We will not be replacing the ATM in Somers. Customers who need to use the ATM can access the one at our nearby Somers branch, located at 612 Main Street."

Customers not wishing to leave their air-conditioned vehicles during these scorching summer months may find the nearest United drive-up machine at 585 Hazard Avenue in Enfield, adjacent to Scitico Plaza.
