Dr. Seuss was born on March 2, 1904 and was named Theodor (“Ted”) Seuss Geisel. He was born to Theodore Robert Geisel and Henrietta Seuss Geisel and they lived on Howard Street in Springfield, Massachusetts. After attending Dartmouth College and Oxford University, Ted began a career in advertising and his advertising cartoons appeared in several leading American magazines.
And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street was Dr. Seuss’s first children’s book. It hit the market in 1937, and children's literature was reborn. Later, in 1957, Seuss's The Cat in the Hat became the prototype for one of Random House's best-selling series, Beginner Books. This series became a very popular learn-to-read book series that has engaged four generations of children and their parents. His stories are always playful, fun, energizing and respectful.
