Driver Killed in Somers Crash Was Former Firefighter: Chief

The man killed in a Somers Crash Thursday was a former firefighter and husband of a current firefighter, a chief said.

SOMERS, CT — The man killed in a truck accident on Route 190 Thursday was a former firefighter whose wife is a current West Stafford Firefighter, a department Facebook post announced.

The post from Chief Joseph Lorenzetti read, "The West Stafford Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of former Firefighter Chad Mason, husband of West Stafford Firefighter Christie Mason as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident this afternoon in Somers, CT ... Chad is survived by his wife Christie and three children. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, and updates will be posted.

The crash took place at 12:09 p.m. Thursday near 794 Main St., the local name for a section of state Route 190.

The truck went through a guardrail and hit several trees and a utility pole, authorities said.

The road was closed between Turnpike Road and Battle Road for some time, police said.

State police identified the driver as 42-year-old Chad Mason of Stafford. He was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

The truck was heading west, state police said. It was registered out of Monson, MA, state police said.
