Registered voters in Ellington set a blistering pace while heading to the polls on Nov. 8 for the 2016 election.
Voting is open until 8 p.m., but by 2 p.m., a total of 4,886 had already voted. That's 49 percent.
Secretary of the state Denise Merrill said the state midday average was 29 percent.
"It's a critical vote this time around, and it means a lot to me," Ellington resident Mark Freund said upon exiting the voting booth. "I'm going to be 60 tomorrow, and this is the last time in my lifetime I'll get the opportunity to vote and make a difference. I voted for Trump. I think the establishment, regardless of Democrat or Republican, has destroyed this country."
