Ellington Reports 15 Inches Of Snow As Storm Impacts Somers Too

Town offices in both Ellington and Somers are closed Monday, with parking bans and service disruptions following the storm.

ELLINGTON/SOMERS, CT — Town officials in both Ellington and Somers say municipal buildings and schools are closed Monday as crews continue cleanup following the winter storm, with parking bans in effect and residents urged to use caution.

In Ellington, Town Hall and all town offices are closed Monday. Ellington Public Schools and school offices are also closed for the day, according to town officials.

Ellington officials saidroads are in relatively good shape, though conditions remain cold and slippery in spots. Snowbanks are high in some areas, particularly near side streets, and residents are urged to use caution when pulling onto roadways and to watch for children who may climb on snowbanks.

Ellington’s Department of Public Works measured about 15 inches of snow from the storm, officials said. A townwide parking ban remains in effect through Monday evening. Trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week. The Board of Selectmen meeting originally scheduled for Monday has been moved to Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m.

In Somers, town officials said a parking ban is in effect from Sunday at noon through Monday at 6 p.m. Town offices are closed Monday due to the storm.

The Somers Recycling Center is closed Sunday and Monday because of the weather, according to a notice on the town website.

Officials in both towns urged residents to stay warm and use caution as cold air lingers and cleanup continues.
