Ellington Softball to Play for Title

With a win over Vernon on Wednesday, the 11-12 softball All-Star team will now play in the District 8 championship game on Friday.

In a very tight game, the Ellington 11-12 year-old softball All-Star team defeated host Vernon 6-5 on Wednesday.

In the top of the fifth inning, Ellington plated three runs to take a 6-3 lead over Vernon. Kayla Buffington’s double and a two RBI triple by Brianna DeLand keyed the rally.

Rachel Stone had two clutch hits and played outstanding defensively for Ellington.

Vernon was lead by pitcher Ally Witham, catcher Rachel Silver and Sarah Kline who scored two runs and made several plays at third base. 

Vernon heads to the loser’s bracket to take on Windsor on Thursday. Ellington awaits the winner of that game and will have its first home game of the tournament at 6 p.m. on Friday at .

If Ellington wins Friday, it will be the 2011 District 8 champion. If Ellington loses, the two teams face off again on Saturday afternoon for the title.
