Ellington, Somers Athletes Shine at Indoor Track Championships
The Knights' boys team placed fifth and the girls 10th in the Class M meet Saturday in New Haven.

A pair of runnerup finishes sparked the Ellington High School boys indoor track and field team to a strong fifth-place showing in the Class M Championships Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.
Wellington Silva was second in the 55 meter dash and David Clavet took second in the 3,200 meter run to pace the Knights.
The 4x200 relay team of Silva, William Broding, Dakota Aldrich and Nicholas Pelletier was third. Thomas Arbeiter finished fourth in the 1,600 meters, while the 4x800 relay team of Kyle Fitzgerald, Arbeiter, Daniel Meaney and Clavet also took fourth.

Joshua Prouty also scored points for Ellington, with a tie for sixth in the pole vault.
On the girls’ side, Megan Knowling won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 2 inches. She also finished fifth in the long jump.

Savanna Macaluso was fourth in the 55 meter hurdles, while the 4x800 relay team of Jenni Giacalone, Anna Chamberland, Allison Hill and Bethany Bahler finished fifth.
The Knights placed 10th in the girls team competition.
Somers competed in the Class S Championships Friday, and John Poitras was the sole Spartan to register points, placing fourth in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs.
