Ellington, Somers Athletes Still Competing for State Titles
The Knights and Spartans are very much in the mix in state tournaments in boys and girls golf, girls tennis and boys and girls track and field.

The turning of the calendar to June means the end of the spring sports season for most Ellington and Somers high school teams, but a few Knights and Spartans are still in competition in state tournament action.
Boys Golf
Ellington is seeded second in the Division 3 tournament, to be held Monday at Timberlin Golf Club in Berlin. Somers is the number 16 seed in the Division 4 tournament, scheduled for Monday at Crestbrook Park in Watertown.
Girls Golf
Ali Larew of Ellington qualified as an individual for the state championship, being played Tuesday at Orange Hills Country Club in Orange.
Girls Tennis
Hannah Riley stormed through the first two rounds of the State Open, winning 8-0 and 8-2, and will face Maddie Stow of Wilton in the third round Monday at Yale.
Boys and Girls Track and Field
Several area athletes have qualified for the State Open, to be held Monday at Willow Brook Park in New Britain. Luke Alvaro of Somers will compete in both the long jump and triple jump, while Ellington's Neal Hulstein and Alissa Rogers take part in the 3200 meters and 100 meter hurdles, respectively. The Ellington boys 4 x 800 relay team will also be running.
