Ellington-Somers Holds off East Hartford

The Ellington-Somers American Legion baseball team needed a five-run inning and then some key pitching to pick up the victory on Saturday.

The Ellington-Somers American Legion baseball team defeated East Hartford by the score of 6-4 on Saturday.     

Justin Vamvilis pitched five strong innings and Dustin Mocadlo came on in the seventh with two runners on base to get the final two outs and preserve the 6-4 victory.

Vamvilis had a triple to start the scoring. Kevin Dwire had two hits, including the big two run single in Ellington-Somers' five-run sixth inning to help take the lead for good.

It was a great team effort in taking what East Hartford gave Ellington-Somers - walks, errors etc.

Ellington-Somers improves to 10-10 with six games remaining. Ellington-Somers must win four of those games to qualify for the tournament.

Ellington-Somers will play a doubleheader on Sunday at UConn against Willimantic.
