'Ellington Unplugged' Offers Philosophies On How To Enrich One's Life
To unplug is to practice moderation, exercise conscious choice and help achieve life balance, according to concepts from the new initiative.

ELLINGTON, CT — Ellington Public Schools has announced the first three tenets of its new seven-part concept, "Ellington Unplugged." Students, staff, family members and residents are asked to consider these philosophies, which may enrich one's life. To unplug is to practice moderation, exercise conscious choice and help achieve life balance.
On the school system website is a statement:
'Unplugged' concepts may drive school policy, curriculum and student activities. Yet, in a family-first town such as Ellington, these concepts have the potential to bring families closer together, allowing us to connect by unplugging.
Parents Monique Lussier, Karl Stocker and Tom McBreen collaborated with teachers and administrators Kirsten Labranche, Mike Nash, Matt Lane, Linda Robinson and Kerri Carlson on the Ellington Unplugged document.

Every 24 hours for at least 24 minutes, have an uninterrupted conversation with those close to you. Developing meaningful relationships that deepen over decades will enhance your life.
Let Nature Nurture
Quiet your mind by spending time in nature walking, swimming, reading a book or simply sitting still. You can be healthier by taking in all of nature’s beauty.
The third tenet of Ellington Unplugged is 'Cook From Scratch,' which states, "Spend time cooking a meal with fresh food, free of chemicals. Enjoy eating together with family or friends free from distractions."
Members of the Ellington Board of Education and administrative team contributed to a 'Cook From Scratch' cookbook. Recipes range from breakfast to dessert and everything in between. Consider preparing one of these sentimental recipes while spending quality time with your family or friends.
Tracey Deptula, assistant to the superintendent, put forth a tremendous effort on the cookbook, Superintendent of Schools Scott Nicol said. It may be downloaded here.
Those deciding to try a recipe are asked to send a photo or video to tdeptula@ellingtonschools.net, or tag the Ellington Board of Education @boe.ellington on Instagram.
