SOMERSVILLE
LOBSTER/CLAMBAKE TO HONOR SOMERS FIREFIGHTERS AND TOWN OFFICIALS
July 30th
Monday from 6-9pm
The was a catastrophic reminder of an
era abandoned. This historical building and the absence of industrial bustle became a vacant suspension of time with restorative dreams for many potential buyers.
The Scantic River meandered in the interior of the building sparking the imagination of many interior designers. Investors looked at the bones of this building as a potential housing development, apartment complex or intimate shops within the quaint village of Somers. The example of what restoration may look like had been developed by Ralph Guisti in a separate mill building fully restored located within 15 feet of the backside of the mill complex. This separate mill building is filled with helping business; an elder adult day care, a child day care, a family counseling center and a Christian based Engineering Company. These small businesses are all family run, embrace the spirit of today’s small business entrepreneur and capture the spirit of Somers as a small town filled with the dreams of successful, hard working, educated residents working toward an American dream.

When the mill caught fire, it melted steel and shooting
embers that looked like a meteor storm threatened to burn the little unattached restored building on the backside of the mill. This little building was formerly part of the mill complex. The knew they could
not save the mill but dedicated themselves to saving the little restored helping building. They stayed on the roof with fire hoses keeping the embers from igniting. The business owners arrived knowing that if the building burns,
so do their dreams and the dreams of over 200 clients that they serve. God brought the rain and ignited the spirit of our beloved firemen as they battled the blazing embers and saved 27 Quality Ave whose beloved slogan is that “there is quality care on Quality Avenue.”
Today we cannot even begin to say Thank You enough to our heroic Somers firemen and town officials who took the lead at this 5 alarm fire, but we are going to throw them a party! To honor them and let them see the businesses they saved and how really appreciative we are.
