Fall Practice Begins: Ellington/Somers Team Titles, 2023 Schedules

ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Fall sports practices officially begin today at Connecticut high schools, with hundreds of teams setting out on their quests for league and state championships.

Among schools in Patch communities in Hartford and Tolland counties, Glastonbury is the all-time leader with 42 fall team championships, followed by Farmington (36), Granby Memorial (33), E.O. Smith (30) and Manchester (29).

Area teams looking to repeat their 2022 state titles are Hall boys cross country (State Open and LL), Glastonbury girls cross country (State Open and LL), Somers girls cross country (S), Ellington boys soccer (M), East Catholic girls soccer (S) and RHAM girls volleyball (M).

Longtime Somers lacrosse coach Ken McCarthy has taken over the school's cross country program.

Ellington High School's 14 fall state titles date back to 1971, while Somers has won eight state crowns since 2004.
