Fire Prompts Brief Evacuation Of Ellington Assisted Living Center
A fire in the storage area of the kitchen at The Ivy assisted living facility was quickly contained by emergency personnel.

ELLINGTON, CT — A fire in the storage area of the kitchen at The Ivy assisted living facility on Route 83 prompted a brief evacuation of all residents and staff Tuesday evening.
The first firefighters to arrive found smoke, then quickly located the fire and extinguished it. The 3-story building was evacuated "due to an overabundance of caution," Chief Jack Rich said.
"The building's sprinkler worked as it should have, and kept the fire in check until crews arrived," Rich said. "My firefighters did an outstanding job preventing further damage to the facility."
