GOP Reps Accuse Dems of Playing Politics With Foundation Relief Money

GOP representatives issued a harsh l letter on Friday.

HARTFORD, CT — Area Republican representatives on Friday accused state House Democrats of planning to leverage money potentially earmarked to aid the crumbling home foundation epidemic to gain votes for the next state budget.

A total of 11 legislators signed a scathing letter distributed to the media on Friday.

It reads:

“The pointed threat by House Democratic leaders to include the crumbling foundations issue in the budget is yet another example of their inability to do right by the people we serve. Playing politics with the lives of thousands of people that are watching their homes crumble before their eyes is just plain wrong. The crumbling foundations matter should be considered on its own merits, separate from the budget.
“Too much bipartisan effort has gone into finding a path forward for this devastating tragedy. The crumbling foundation issue is not a Republican or Democratic issue. It is truly a concern for the entire state of Connecticut.

More than 34,000 homes in north central and eastern Connecticut could be affected by a mineral that causes concrete to crack. State and federal lawmakers have been scrambling to find some sort of disaster relief for homeowners.
