Let's Draw a Red Line Through Syria

In this installment of 'A View From the Deck', J. Wiley Dumas takes a stand against US Military action in Syria

NOTE: The following is OPINION. It is the Point of View of the author, and he alone takes full responsibility for the content therein

It’s proving to be a rather rocky Second Term for the All-Knowing, Great and Powerful Oz…uh, Obama. Scandals such as the IRS, NSA, and DOJ still follow his administration around like a hungry rabid dog seeking a bone, his performance satisfaction among We, the People is down to its lowest yet, the (not very) Affordable Healthcare Act, aka ‘ObamaCare’ is proving to be the disaster that everyone knew it to be (other than Pelosi, et all, who simply demanded to pass it to understand it), and the economy is still struggling despite massive influxes of OUR TAX DOLLARS into mismanaged government programs that have failed to show any positive results whatsoever.

This all just proves the old adage that it’s always possible to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, if you’re incompetent enough.

Not satisfied with all of these failures, that are strictly on his watch, the president is now courting additional disaster by redrawing his ‘Red Line’ in the sand regarding Syria and the Assad regime.

Obama has strongly spoken out on the alleged use of chemical weapons by the megalomaniacal Syrian despot, and has threatened a ‘Shot Across the Bow’ as a demonstration of his incredible leadership abilities.

Many Americans now wonder where those same ‘strong words’ were during the Muslim Brotherhood’s acts of violence against their fellow countrymen after Morsi snatched power in Egypt.

The facts, or rather, ‘truths’ of the current situation in Syria are reminiscent of the early days of Iraq and those pesky ‘WMDs’ that everyone was certain that Saddam possessed.

In light of these ‘facts,’ the president is now poised to do an end-run around both congress and the UN Security Council (who listens to them anyway) in his quest to make all of his past mistakes and misspeakings disappear faster that those WMDs of the Bush Administration.

Okay, to be honest, if Assad has indeed used chemical weapons on his fellow Syrians, then the little GQ reject should be removed from his throne, by his countrymen.

But why is it the job of the United States to police every other country on the face of the planet? Haven’t we sacrificed enough of our young men and women for purposes other than the security of our nation’s own?

We are only recently seeing our troops return from Afghanistan, and yet the Great and powerful One wants to sacrifice more American lives for his cause, that being to prevent him looking like a (bigger) fool for his rush to draw that ‘Red Line.’

Lawmakers on both the Right and Left are screaming at the top of their lungs for action regarding Syria, but those same lawmakers will not be the ones sent ‘into the mouth of the Dragon.’ No, it will be young Americans; sons, daughters, fathers, and mothers that will be sacrificed in order to back up the reckless, impatient bluster of a lame duck president desperate to have just one single success in his final term, and hopefully distract We, the People, from those pesky 'fake' scandals.

While support for action against the Assad regime may be gaining ground in the House and Senate, the American people are sick and tired of sacrificing our young men and women for foreign causes and for people that then are all too quick to turn against us.

I urge each of you to contact your respective Representatives and tell them that We, the People, are against any military action in lands that have no benefit to our nation. We, the People have sacrificed enough of our children for others.
