Letter from Legislators Regarding Cracked Foundations
Eastern Connecticut representatives and senators want to hear from residents whose homes have been affected.
Dear Editor,
Many homeowners in central and eastern Connecticut have reported serious issues with the foundations in their homes: atypical cracks are forming and causing premature failure of basement walls. Originally thought to be isolated to a few properties, it is now evident that this is a much larger problem. The foundations of the affected homes were poured during the mid-1980s and into the late 1990s.
As the legislators representing the affected area, we are working alongside the Department of Consumer Protection, the Office of the Attorney General, Governor Malloy’s office, and individuals in the private sector to identify the affected homes, investigate the cause of the cracking, and provide possible solutions for the homeowners.
