Local Lacrosse Player Competing To Make Wishes Come True

A local lacrosse player is hitting the field this summer for a higher cause.

ELLINGTON, CT — A local lacrosse player is hitting the field this summer for a higher cause.

Meet 13-year-old Aaron Mickiewicz of Ellington. He's been playing lacrosse since he was 7 and had seen the Make A Wish squad a lot during tournaments in Connecticut and Massachusetts. He said he was so impressed with the casue that he tried out for a team.

He made the CT Wake a Wish team and is now playing to raise money that goes toward granting wishes to children with critical illnesses.

"Wish kids are some of the bravest and sweetest kids you'll ever know," he said.

Wishes have, over the years, included working in a pickle factory, becoming a superhero, going snorkeling, going to the Olympics and pushing all of the buttons in a tall building's elevator.

Make a wish officials said, "A wish come true helps children feel stronger, more energetic, more willing and able to battle their critical illnesses. For many, the wish marks a turning point in the fight against their illnesses. Doctors, nurses and other health professionals say, the wish experience works in concert with medicine to make their patients feel better emotionally and even physically. That is why wishes matter."

Aaron's team is playing this summer for donations. One example is a tournament this weekend on Long Island.

A dedicated web page has been set up by the make A Wish Foundatin to facilitate it. Aaron is on the team dedicated to 2024 wishes.
