Penguin Plunge Canceled In Ellington

Officials cite hazardous conditions and forecasted snow as reasons for postponing the fundraiser.

ELLINGTON, CT — Organizers have pulled the plug on this weekend’s Penguin Plunge, citing lingering safety concerns from Blizzard Calvin and another storm forecast later this week.

The annual cold-water fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, has been canceled, according to Ellington Police.

In a notice to participants and supporters, organizers said the decision was made “after careful consideration” due to ongoing hazardous conditions following the blizzard, as well as the potential for additional winter weather in the coming days.

“The safety of our participants, volunteers, and supporters remains our top priority,” the statement said. “Given current conditions and the anticipated weather, we believe postponing the event is the most responsible decision.”

Police said they are working with Special Olympics Connecticut to reschedule the Penguin Plunge. A new date will be announced once it is confirmed.
