Pet-Sitter Accused of Taking Items Worth Thousands From Vacationing Somers Couple
She is facing a serious larceny charge.

SOMERS, CT —A woman who was pet sitting for her landlords in Somers while they were on vacation is accused of taking more than $17,000 worth of items from the couple and then pawning them off in East Hartford, according to an arrest warrant.
The couple from Pond Circle in Somers told police that Valerie Ludwig, 46, who rents an apartment from them on Main Street in Somers, was asked to feed pets during a week in November when her landlords were away, according to an arrest warrant.
A short time after arriving back, the couple noticed that jewelry was missing and a review of the home security cameras showed Ludwig exiting the house with a bag full of stuff she did not arrive with, according to an arrest warrant.

She was the only person who had access to the home aside from a cleaning professional, according to an arrest warrant. State police also received an alert from a pawn shop in East Hartford, according to a warrant.
Camera and electronic equipment were also taken, according to a warrant.

It all added up to $17,926, according to a warrant.
Ludwig was charged with second-degree larceny and is due in court on Jan. 16, according to state police.
