As Practice Opens, a Look at Fall State Championships for Ellington and Somers High Schools

ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Thursday marks the official opening of practice for fall high school sports, and the first day gives every team hope and optimism that perhaps a state championship is in the cards.

A total of 12 Ellington High School teams have captured state titles in fall sports in the past:

• boys soccer (5): 2014 (M), 2008 (M), 2007 (M), 1972 (S), 1971 (S)
• boys cross country (4): 2014 (M), 2005 (SS), 2004 (SS), 1996 (SS)
• girls soccer (3): 1997 (S), 1992 (S), 1990 (S)

Six Somers High School teams have won state titles in fall sports in past years:

• boys soccer (6): 2015 (S), 2014 (S), 2011 (S), 2010 (S), 2008 (S), 2004 (S)
