Senators Disappointed in $1.7 Million Cut to Johnson Hospital Budget

Sen. John. A. Kissel (R-Enfield) and Sen. Tony Guglielmo (R-Stafford Springs) expressed disappointment Tuesday in the latest budget cuts to hospitals across the state, including $1,689,018 in cuts for Johnson Memorial Hospital.

“These cuts are so unfortunate because they will hurt the most vulnerable people in our communities,” Kissel said. “We are worried about the impact this will have on the delivery of health care, not only at Johnson Memorial, but across the state. We are going to do all we can to protect patients and jobs in our region.”

“These cuts are going to be devastating to Johnson Memorial Hospital,” Guglielmo said. “During the last four years they have been promised help only to have the rug pulled out from underneath them - not once, not twice but four times. It is clear the people who will be hurt the most are the workers and patients. There will be staff cuts, there will be operational cuts there is only so much an institution like this can sustain. I stand ready to make this a priority with my colleagues in the legislature. We have to find a way to restore these painful cuts.”
