SOMERS, CT β Election season is heating up in Somers, and there are plenty of contested races with candidates eager to represent their town in November's municipal election. Ellington-Somers Patch asked candidates in the first selectman race to answer questions about their campaigns, and has been publishing candidate profiles each weekday as election day draws near.

Previous or Current Elected or Appointed Office: Town Clerk - Re-elected 5 terms since 2001; Assistant Town Clerk 1987-2000
The single most pressing issue facing our town is: Encourage business development while maintaining rural character, become more proactive vs. reactive, recruit innovative forward thinking board/commission members, honesty, openness, a First Selectman of the residents of Somers vs. the political parties.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post: I have experienced working in multiple departments within town government - stay apprised of current issues and possible resolutions - constant communications with staff - personally more responsive to both staff and residents.
List other issues that define your campaign platform: Honesty, openness, responsive - personal response - resident driven.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job: Electronic access to records, FOI Liaison, Grant monies secured, Shelter Mgr, Cert Member, FOI Liaison Certified, Veterans Affairs Certified, previously Operations Manager for Retail business.
The best advice ever shared with me was: Say thank you for a job well done and but also apologize for your error(s).
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions: I love working for the town of Somers and interacting with its residents. I have lived in this community for 40 years and enjoyed every moment. I want to continue working with the residents of Somers as your First Selectman.
