Somers Superintendent Makes Security Assurances in Letter
Somers Superintendent of Schools Brian Czapla on Friday sent a letter to the education community in the wake of a school shooting in Texas.

SOMERS, CT — Somers Superintendent of Schools Brian Czapla on Friday sent a letter to the education community in the wake of a school shooting in Texas.
The letter makes several security assurances.
Here is the text:
Today we witnessed yet another school shooting tragedy. Our thoughts are with the students, staff, parents, and the entire community of Santa Fe, Texas.
The Somers Public School System continues to monitor and update our security provisions as noted in my email earlier this week.
We are also working with town officials to explore other security enhancements for our schools. Keeping our students safe requires constant vigilance. We continue to make physical improvements to the schools to keep intruders out and keep students inside safe.
Each school has a child study team that frequently meets to identify students that may have academic, social or emotional needs, and to develop appropriate interventions. Each team is composed of teachers, administrators, school counselors and mental health professionals. School processes and protocols are frequently reviewed and updated by the District Safety and Security Team.
I have a Superintendent's Advisory Group that meets twice a month. This group of high school students keeps me updated on the success, the challenges, and the concerns of students at the high school. Parents and the community are also critical partners in keeping our students safe.
If you have concerns, hear, or see something, please be sure to reach out to local law enforcement or the schools. Please reinforce with your students if they hear, see, suspect, or know something, they must let you or us know immediately.
Thank you.
