State Police Say 'Suicidal' Man Speeds into Parking Lot, Hits Tree in Somers

THe man was taken to the hospital and then charged, state police said.

SOMERS, CT — A Somers man was charged with several offenses after he veered into the parking of the Pleasant View Golf Center on South Road at a high rate of speed and eventually slammed into a tree, state police said.

State police received a call about a suicidal man on Wednesday at 11:20 p.m. They were pursuing the suspect vehicle and it suddenly sped into the parking lot of the golf center, according to state police reports.

State police said he was distraught and left his house after a family squabble. He hit a tree while trying to flee the lot also at a high rate of speed, state police said.

Brian Cote, 33, was charged with reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit, possession of drug paraphernalia, interfering and disorderly conduct, state police said.

He was taken first to Johnson Memorial Hospital for evaluation but was then held on a $100,000 bond, according to state police reports.

He is due back in court on Feb. 17 according to judicial system records. The warrant has been sealed by the court.
