One of my favorite things about summer is outdoor concerts! I never get to very many as life has a way of flying by these days, but I always have them on my list and once in a while I squeeze them in. Everything from concerts at the Tanglewood Festival in the Berkshires, to concerts on the Green right here in Ellington; outdoor music offers something extra special to families~
Immersing your children in music of all sorts supports their growing musical "appetite". Listening to classical, jazz, rock and roll, hip hop, world, R&B, alternative... You name it, and it offers your child something interesting! Just like we want to expose our children to lots of different foods, we want to expose them to lots of different types of music; a musical buffet if you will.
Outdoor concerts offer all of these things, often for free! Even Tanglewood has lawn seats which are very inexpensive, and children are free for some of their offerings. Bring a picnic and you are good to go. Not sure you want to dive in to something quite so big, check out the concert series offered at Arbor Park this summer on Sunday evenings ~ bring a blanket and a picnic if like, maybe a few quiet toys, and get ready to enjoy.
Outdoor venues offer you a way to expose your children to "concerts" without some of the restrictions of being in a concert hall - there is always room to get up and move around, it's easier to get up and leave if necessary, people tend to be more relaxed and tolerant and they are just generally fun!
Away on vacation? Check out local park venues for concert series and enjoy! Who knows, maybe you'll even get to do some singing and dancing along~
