Thompsonville Edges Ellington

The 11-12 year-old All-Star teams played a tight game on Tuesday night with Thompsonville coming away with the victory.

On Tuesday, the Thompsonville 11-12 year-old All-Star baseball team defeated Ellington 9-8 in a winners' bracket game of the double elimination tournament.

Thompsonville jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning, capped by a 3-run home run by Sergio DeLeon. Ellington tied the game at five in the second inning, but Thompsonville forged ahead and held off Ellington at the end.

Thomas Schmidt pitched 5 1/3 innings to earn the victory and also homered. Peter Barbalich reached base all four times, scored a run, had n RBI, played solid defense and picked up the save on the mound.

Tim Callahan doubled a drove in a run and Tyler Renna hit well for Thompsonville.

For Ellington, Jack Paul had three hits and scored three runs, and Josh Sumaslaski homered, had two hits, two RBI and scored two runs.

Shaun Lavey scored two runs and had a RBI and Christian Rider had two hits, a RBI and pitched well in relief.

Ellington will play Suffield on Wednesday. Thompsonville will play Tolland on Thursday.
