Tough Day for Local Teams in Girls' Basketball Tournament
Ellington was among five teams from north-central Connecticut to bow out in the opening round Saturday; Enfield and South Windsor advance.

It was a tough day on the basketball court for most of the north-central Connecticut area girls’ teams in the opening round of state tournament competition Saturday.
Enfield and South Windsor each won their first-round games easily, but five other area teams were eliminated.
No. 2 Enfield dispatched No. 31 Killingly 67-42 in the Class M opener at Fermi High School. The undefeated Raiders (24-0) will host No. 15 Stonington on Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m., also at Fermi.

In Class LL, eighth-seeded South Windsor disposed of No. 25 Newington, 51-35. The Bobcats will host a second-round game Thursday against the winner of Monday’s Trumbull/Simsbury matchup.
Avon was eliminated from the Class LL tournament, while Ellington, Suffield, East Catholic and Tolland all fell in Class M.
