When the Latest Winter Storm will Stop in Ellington, Somers

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through today.

The latest winter storm dumped several inches of snow on the area overnight and it’s not over yet.

The National Weather Service’s Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday.

The weather service warns of heavy snow with total snow accumulations of 10 to 14 inches along with a trace amount of ice.

Snow is expected to continue into this afternoon and will continue mixing with sleet and freezing rain in the area.

Any mixed precipitation is expected to change back to snow mid-to-late afternoon before ending this evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds are expected to be around 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

Hazardous travel is expected with snow covered roads and poor visibility, especially with the blowing and drifting snow that is expected.

Below is a detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:

  • This Afternoon: Snow and sleet, becoming all snow after 2pm. High near 23. North wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 6 to 10 inches possible.
  • Tonight: A chance of snow, mainly before 10pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 2. Wind chill values as low as -10. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 20. Wind chill values as low as -11. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph.
