ENFIELD, CT — A Massachusetts man was arrested Thursday on a warrant stemming from his involvement in a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl at an Enfield motel, according to police.

Brian Smith, 31, of Springfield, was charged with illegal sexual contact with a victim aged 13 or under, second-degree sexual assault of a victim between ages 13-15 and enticing a minor by computer. His bond was set at $350,000.

Not many details about the case were released, but Police Chief Alaric Fox said his department was contacted by West Springfield police about a sexual assault which had reportedly occurred in Nov. 2022 at the Red Roof Inn in Enfield.

The girl told police she had initially made contact with Smith via social media, with him claiming he was 20 years old. Investigation revealed Uber transports to the Red Roof Inn, where his name was registered on the check-in log, Fox said.

The girls also provided police a description of Smith's identifying characteristics, including tattoos, and she positively identified him in a photo array, Fox said.

After numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact Smith, he agreed to be interviewed by Enfield police. He claimed the girl said she was 21 years old, Fox said.

A warrant was obtained for his arrest, and he was taken into custody Thursday after he was picked up by Longmeadow police on motor vehicle charges, the chief said.
