7th Graders at St. Bernard School Tackle Science Unit on Cells

Ms. Brooke Landry Sparks Creativity in Life Science Class

Students in Miss Landry’s 7th grade Life Science class at St. Bernard School recently completed their study of the cell structure. Each student was required to create a 3-D model of either a plant or animal cell for their first term project. The purpose of this project was to better understand the function of each organelle within the cell and to identify the differences between plant and animal cell structures. Students were asked to select items to represent various cell structures and justify their choices by describing how the items they have chosen represent the actual parts of a cell. Students showed their creativity by using materials including: Jell-O, Styrofoam, toy models, pipe cleaners, beads, cake, candy, and other food products.
