Academic Honors Accorded to College Students From Enfield
A number of Enfield college students have earned great honors during a very trying academic semester.
ENFIELD, CT — Here are some recent notable academic accomplishments by college students who reside in Enfield. The information is provided to Enfield Patch by readMedia Newswire.
Assumption College, Worcester MA
- Assumption has announced five students from Enfield have been named to the College's Dean's List for the spring 2020 semester. Students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 for a five-class, 15-credit semester to be included on the prestigious list, which is announced at the completion of the fall and spring semesters. Local students include Jessica Follo, Class of 2021; Caterina Fonseca, Class of 2022; Kennedy O'Hara, Class of 2021; Justin Rankin, Class of 2021; and Noah Veilleux, Class of 2021.
Castleton University, Castleton VT

- Alex Jensen of Enfield was recently named to the Castleton University President's List for the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. To qualify for this highest academic honor, the student must maintain full-time status and a semester grade point average of 4.0.
Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT
- Eastern Connecticut State University's Communication Department inducted 39 new students into the Lambda Pi Eta national honor society and awarded students for excellence in radio, research, television, leadership, journalism and photography. Among those honored were three Enfield residents: Elizabeth D'Alessandro, a senior who majors in Communication; Stephanie Kula, a junior who majors in Communication; and Jessica Merluzzi, a junior who majors in Communication. Lambda Pi Eta is the international honor society for communication with 400 active chapters worldwide. The honor society recognizes students for excellence in the field of communication and supports professional development. To be eligible, students must have completed at least 12 credits of communication study, have a GPA of at least 3.25, be in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class and display commitment to the field of communication.
- Seven Eastern Connecticut State University students were inducted into Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE), the international honor society for economics, this spring 2020 semester.
Among the inductees was Alexis Schacht of Enfield, a senior majoring in Theatre and Labor Relations/Human Resource Management. To be inducted, students must have an overall GPA of at least 3.25 in economics courses.
Nichols College, Dudley MA

- Zachary Palmer, a Nichols College student from Enfield, achieved President's List status for the spring 2020 semester at Nichols College, which ended in May. Students whose semester grade point average is 3.85 or higher for at least 12 undergraduate credit-hours and no grades below B- will receive President's List honors.
Plymouth State University, Plymouth NH
- Enfield residents Nathan Shannahan, Nicholas Shannahan and John Zirolli were named to the Plymouth State University President's List for the spring 2020 semester. To be named to the President's List, a student must achieve a grade point average of 3.7 or better for the spring 2020 semester and must have attempted at least 12 credit hours during the semester.
- Four students from Enfield have been named to the Plymouth State University Dean's List for the spring 2020 semester. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must achieve a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.69 during the spring semester and must have attempted at least 12 credit hours during the semester. Honorees from Enfield are Hannah Grossi, Nathan Shannahan, Nicholas Shannahan and John Zirolli.
University of Massachusetts, Amherst MA
- Vanna Albert of Enfield was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Albert is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.
Western New England University, Springfield MA
- Dr. Sharianne Walker, Dean of the College of Business, announced that Danielle M. Orr, of Enfield, was one of 35 students inducted into the Western New England University chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society of AACSB-accredited business schools worldwide. Orr is majoring in Accounting. Eligible sophomores, juniors, and seniors comprise the top 10% of their respective classes and eligible graduate students are among the top 20 percent of their respective graduate programs. Beta Gamma Sigma represents "the best in business" and members reside in all 50 states and in more than 190 countries.
- Class of 2021 Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) learner Brooke Ellis, of Enfield, has been selected by the American Occupational Therapy Foundation (AOTF) for the Summer Institute for Future Scientists in Occupational Therapy. The Institute is a 1-day program that matches potential student scientists with doctoral and post-doctorate mentors. This is a highly competitive program in which the AOTF "invests" in entry level OT students who they hope will advance knowledge in our field through science. This investment includes training and mentorship in research. Program participants meet with leading occupational therapy scientists to address topics such as possibilities within OT science, considerations when evaluating potential doctoral programs, and career opportunities as a scientist. Participants also attend the Occupational Therapy Summit of Scholars at Colorado State University.
