ACC's Foundation Sponsors Early Childhood Event
The ACC Foundation sponsored an evening focusing on learning about the brains of children ages birth through 8 years of age.
Asnuntuck students, parents, high school teachers, and early childhood providers gathered on Tuesday, October 9th to spend an evening focusing on learning about the brains of children ages birth through 8 years of age. Students spent time networking and then in teams, played the Brain Architecture Game, which was created by the Center for the Developing Child at Harvard. Students were given scenarios that described either positive, tolerable or toxic stress and then had to build their models of the brain that depicted the impact of such stressors. The goal of the game was to build the tallest, sturdiest brains possible.
The Brain Architecture Game was funded by an Asnuntuck Foundation mini grant. Following the game, students joined others from across the U.S. in an hour-long webinar provided by the Gesell Institute that also discussed brain development and the young child. Participants received a certificate of completion from Gesell for attending.
Asnuntuck is offering a late start Early Childhood class. ECE 206 Administration and Leadership in Early Childhood begins October 17th and runs online for 6 weeks. Registration for the spring semester begins October 29th.
