Addiction Awareness Candlelight Vigil in Enfield Rescheduled

ENFIELD, CT — The Community Addiction Awareness Project (CAAP), with the support of Enfield Youth Services, will be sponsoring and participating in the NOPE (Narcotics Overdose Prevention and Education) National Candle Light Vigil.

On the last Thursday in October, communities across the nation joined the Office of National Drug Control Policy and NOPE Task Force in hosting the annual vigil in memory of those lost to and those suffering from substance abuse.

In Enfield, the vigil was originally scheduled for Oct. 29; however, due to heavy rain, it will now take place Sunday, Nov. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Enfield Town Green.

Many lives have been destroyed by substance abuse and the disease of addiction. Too often, this disease is perceived as deserved and shameful, leaving families to grieve in silence, or an addict struggling to recover alone.

The NOPE Vigil strives to raise awareness and open the doors to recovery by eliminating the prejudice that has followed the disease of addiction - a disease that shows no prejudice to any walk of life or background. With the removal of shame comes the hope for survival. Acceptance of the disease can be humbling to the soul, and, in turn, empowering to those in need, to seek help.

Help lift the stigma of addiction and show recovery is possible. There will be a board available to post pictures or notes for loved ones.
