ENFIELD, CT — A search of a Moody Road motorcycle clubhouse earlier this month was part of an investigation into two explosive attacks at an Andover home, according to an arrest warrant obtained by Patch.
Anthony Fox, 50, of Torrington, was arrested Aug. 6 and charged with third-degree arson and second-degree breach of peace. He is accused of taking part in attacks at the home on April 15 and May 9.
The warrant affidavit was prepared by a Connecticut State Police detective assigned to the FBI Violent Crime Task Force. A judge signed the warrant July 30 after finding probable cause for Fox's arrest.
The first attack occurred April 15, when someone in a passing vehicle threw an explosive device into the road outside the home, the warrant states. A resident was standing in the driveway at the time, but no one was injured and no property was damaged.
After that incident, state police established surveillance near the home because investigators were concerned about the possibility of further violence.
On May 9, surveillance footage captured a gray sedan turning onto a road beside the property shortly before 10:52 p.m., according to the warrant. The car's headlights went dark before two people appeared to walk toward the home through a wooded area.
Moments later, the camera recorded a bright fireball being thrown toward a vehicle parked in the driveway, investigators said. Police recovered the remains of what appeared to be a Molotov cocktail — a glass jar containing clear liquid with a cloth rag protruding from the top.
The vehicle was damaged, but no injuries were reported.
Investigators focused on a distinctive brake light that stretched across the rear window of the gray sedan. An Enfield police detective later found a similar vehicle arriving at the Red Devils Motorcycle Club clubhouse at 33 Moody Road at 11:37 p.m., about 45 minutes after the Andover attack, the warrant states.
Footage from the clubhouse showed two passengers getting out of the car wearing Red Devils vests. One appeared to be carrying a blanket, large shirt or rag, according to the affidavit.
Police identified the car as a gray 2020 Hyundai Sonata registered to Fox.
Investigators also obtained cellphone records that they say placed Fox's phone near the Andover home between 10:45 and 10:54 p.m. It was then detected near the Enfield clubhouse between 11:34 and 11:39 p.m.
The same phone was also in the area of the Andover home shortly before the April 15 explosion, according to the warrant.
Investigators received information identifying Fox as a fully patched member of the Red Devils, the affidavit states. A resident of the Andover home told police they believed the attacks were connected to the intended victim's former membership in the club.
Police searched the Moody Road property on Aug. 6, closing the road for several hours. Authorities did not say at the time what prompted the search.
Fox was held on $350,000 bond following his arrest. He has not entered a plea. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
