ENFIELD, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Alvernia University, Reading PA

• Lauren Pierce of Enfield was named a member of the Beta Kappa Chi honor society in spring 2018. Pierce is studying Forensic Science at Alvernia University and is a graduate of Enrico Fermi High School. Beta Kappa Chi - Natural Sciences & Mathematics - has the purpose of encouraging the advancement of scientific education through original investigations, the dissemination of scientific knowledge, and the stimulation of high scholarship in the pure and applied sciences.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

• Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) began its 150th Commencement celebrations with the graduate students' ceremony on Thursday, May 10, awarding nearly 830 master's and doctoral degrees. Tyler Reese of Enfield was awarded a doctor of philosophy degree in mathematical sciences; Dwayne Hanlan of Enfield was awarded a master of business administration degree; and Kadidiatou Diakite of Enfield was awarded a master of science degree in systems engineering.
• On Saturday, May 12, on the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) campus quadrangle, over 1,000 bachelor's degrees were awarded during the university's 150th commencement ceremony. Daniel Salisbury of Enfield was awarded a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering with distinction.
