Asnuntuck Hosts Wellness Week

An award winning film and two speakers will all be a part of a Wellness Week held at the college next week.

On March 27th, Sarah C. Howroyd, MSW, LMSW will present Freedom from Opioids through Hope, Prevention and Education in Asnuntuck’s new Conference Room.

On March 29th, Anxiety and the Intersection with Substance Use, featuring guest speaker Dr. Alicia Farrell will be held at Asnuntuck as part of Wellness Week.

Asnuntuck Community College invites the public to join the Asnuntuck community in attending free Wellness Week activities at the campus on March 27th, 28th and 29th. The Connecticut Healthy Campus Initiative has provided financial support for the activities through the Campus Opioid Education and Awareness Program.

On March 27th from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Sarah C. Howroyd, MSW, LMSW will present Freedom from Opioids through Hope, Prevention and Education in Asnuntuck’s new Conference Room. Howroyd (first photo) co-founded, designed, and implemented the Manchester, CT HOPE (Heroin/Opioid Prevention and Education) Initiative with Manchester, CT Police Chief Marc Montminy. The HOPE Initiative is a law-enforcement facilitated community diversion program for people living with Opioid Use Disorder. The program aims to humanely treat, combat, and diminish the Opioid epidemic by helping those most affected to enter treatment, instead of the criminal justice system.

On March 28th Asnuntuck will screen the Academy Award nominated short subject documentary HEROIN(E). As America’s opioid crisis threatens to tear communities apart, this Netflix original short documentary shows how the chain of compassion holds one town together. The film will be shown in Asnuntuck’s auditorium from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

The Wellness Week will conclude in Asnuntuck’s auditorium on Thursday, March 29th, from 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. with Anxiety and the Intersection with Substance Use, featuring guest speaker Dr. Alicia Farrell (2nd photo).

Dr. Farrell is an accomplished cognitive psychologist, former university professor, national keynote speaker and founder of Clearview Consulting. Dr. Farrell’s mission is to help individuals, couples, families, and organizations to find their strength and courage to make healthy decisions and changes in their lives and businesses. She is an expert at translating cutting-edge scientific research.
