Asnuntuck's Latest Changing Lives Show Spotlights Esthetics

ACC's most recent episode of "Changing Lives" spotlighted the esthetics program and clinic at the college.

Asnuntuck’s Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education, Eileen Peltier, hosted a recent episode of “Changing Lives.” Her guests were Kelly Krivacs, ACC’s Esthetics Instructor; Dana Diamond, who took both Basic and Advanced Esthetics at Asnuntuck; and Jess Poirier, ACC Continuing Education Coordinator.

Krivacs shared information regarding the college’s Basic and Advanced Skin Esthetics program. She reminded viewers that esthetics should not be associated only with improving one’s appearance. The expert said that skin is the largest human organ and taking care of it can offer positive health benefits. Students who train to be an esthetician will provide skin treatments, hair removal and other procedures to their clients, and can work in a variety of settings including spas, salons and doctors’ offices.

Asnuntuck Community College is a Dermalogica partnership school. Students perform services on each other as well as on the public in Asnuntuck’s supervised spa clinic setting. According to Krivacs this 3-month program, with 150 hours of classroom instruction and 200 hours of clinical instruction, meets all requirements for students wishing to apply for a Massachusetts Esthetics license. Currently Connecticut does not require Estheticians to be licensed.
