Beloved Enfield Priest Dispels Rumors of His Demise
Fr. Francis Kerwan started Holy Family Church in 1965 and continues to lead it today, despite a false rumor that has circulated since Sunday night that he had passed away.

In 1897, the great writer Mark Twain responded to publication of his obituary in the New York Journal by uttering the often-misquoted "the report of my death was an exaggeration."
Fortunately for the Enfield community, a rumor about the alleged passing of one of its most beloved citizens turned out to be false as well, though word spread like wildfire.
, is alive and well, and gleefully reported that information during an in-person interview with Enfield Patch Monday afternoon.

Fr. Kerwan was able to find some humor in the situation, stating he does not feel the rumor was intended to be malicious. Nonetheless, it was no laughing matter to others in the Holy Family community.
Fr. John Pahl and church secretary Linda Sacheli said they have been fielding telephone calls all day Monday.
"One person called and asked if the rumor was true, and I said I hope not, since Father is saying Mass right now," Sacheli said.
Fr. Kerwan said ending the rumor will put many parishioners' minds at ease.
