ENFIELD, CT — Here are some recent accomplishments of college and university students from Enfield, as provided by readMedia Newswire.
- WILLIMANTIC, CT (12/15/2016)-- Forty-nine exemplary psychology students from Eastern Connecticut State University presented their research on Dec. 9 at the department's annual Psychological Science Night. Among the students who presented were two from Enfield. Madison LaRusso, who majors in Psychology, presented her research project entitled "Extraversion and Preference for Competition: Differences Comparing Sibling Structure." Taylor Sas, who majors in Psychology, presented her research project entitled "Narcissism, Psychopathy and Impulsivity in Relation to Short-Term Mating Strategies."
- WILLIMANTIC, CT — Eastern Connecticut State University recently hosted its annual Scholarship Reception in the Fine Arts Instructional Center. The event brought together major ECSU Foundation scholarship donors and their respective student-recipients. This year students were awarded scholarships, totaling more than $600,000 in financial aid to students of all backgrounds and academic majors.
Students from Enfield who received scholarships, including their majors, were Danielle Flaherty (New Media Studies), Kaley Kennedy (Health Sciences), Heather Murray (Business Administration) and Matthew Wakelee (Pre-Secondary Education Certification and History and Social Science). - WILLIMANTIC, CT — Caraline Gartrell of Eastern Connecticut State University helped christen the brand new Proscenium Theatre with an inaugural performance of " Cervante's Pedro, The Great Pretender." The historic occasion - the first major production of the Theatre Program to occur in that venue - took place within Eastern's new Fine Arts Instructional Center from Nov. 8 to 13. The classic play by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, a playwright of the Spanish Golden Age, follows the tricks of Pedro, a master pretender whose escapades involve him with a slew of characters and careers as he struggles to find his true vocation in life. Gartrell majors in Communication and Theatre with a minor in Writing and a concentration in Acting. In "Pedro," Gartrell played Clemencia.
- NEW LONDON, NH — This year, Colby-Sawyer College joined high schools and colleges from around the world in Project Green Challenge. Every day in October, students received a call-to-action in categories ranging from zero-waste and food to fashion, energy and wellbeing - and they earned points for their participation. Students from Colby-Sawyer's Eco-Reps and Sustainability Core helped gather registrants and provide encouragement throughout the month. Stephanie Malicki, who is on-track to be the college's first graduate of the community-based sustainability major, was in first place among 4,018 students during part of the competition. And, due in part to her extraordinary efforts, Colby-Sawyer finished 36th out of 536 schools from 37 countries. "I have never been so passionate and so inspired; I can see my future changing," said Malicki. "I know that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life; I want to always have this love for the environment and for a more sustainable future." - WILLIMANTIC, CT — The Percussion Ensemble at Eastern Connecticut State University presented a concert on Dec. 4 in the Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC) Concert Hall. Emily Miclon of Enfield was one of the students who performed in the concert. Miclon majors in Political Science and Music. The ensemble presented a collection of large ensemble works and chamber repertoire, including Rick Dior's "Science Fiction." The concert also included an original composition for solo marimba and percussion quartet by music professor Jeffrey Calissi.
- SELINSGROVE, PA — Shannon Wilcox is serving an internship this winter at the Common Reading program at Susquehanna University. Her responsibilities include participating in the Common Reading process and creating the teaching guide. Through the course of the internship, she will gain experience aiding professors in teaching Common Reading material. Wilcox is an English major in the Class of 2018. A 2014 graduate of Metropolitan Learning Center High School, she is the daughter of Mark and Michele Wilcox.
- KEENE, NH — Keene State College Women's Soccer student-athlete Sierra Trzepacz has been named to the Little East Conference Academic All-Conference team. She is a native of Enfield, majoring in Health Science. To be named a Fall All-Academic awardee, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher through the 2016 spring semester and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. The student-athlete must also be a full-time member of a varsity sport and be enrolled in its institution for a full academic year.
- CONWAY, SC — Chelsea Jones, of Enfield, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in management during commencement exercises Dec. 16 and 17, 2016, at Coastal Carolina University.
- KENOSHA, WI — Carthage College has named Joshua Dombroski of Enfield to its Dean's List for academic excellence during the fall 2016 semester. Dean's List honors are accorded to Carthage students who achieve a 3.5 grade-point average while carrying at least 14 credit hours during a semester.
