Some recent notable accomplishments by college students who reside in Enfield.
ENFIELD, CT — College classes resumed about two weeks ago, but Patch is still receiving notifications of accomplishments by local students from the summer and even this past spring from readMedia Newswire.
Alvernia University, Reading PA
- Lauren Pierce of Enfield was named a Student Undergraduate Research Fellow for the summer of 2017. Pierce is studying Forensic Science/Chemistry at Alvernia University. The Student Undergraduate Research Fellows (S.U.R.F.) program is an opportunity for students to experience scholarship, research, and the creative process in collaboration with faculty scholars. Fellows earn a stipend and are granted free housing for the eight-week summer program. Pierce's project was titled "Investigation into the Effects of DNA Structures and their interactions with Gold Nanoparticle Surfaces." To be eligible for a SURF grant, students must carry a 3.0 GPA, and complete a joint proposal with a member of the faculty. Pierce worked with Assistant Professor Chemistry, Dr. Joshua Smith at Alvernia.
