ENFIELD, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.
Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT
- Talented percussionists at Eastern Connecticut State University recently entertained audiences that included Eastern students, faculty, staff and local community members at Eastern's state-of-the-art Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC) Concert Hall. The concerts included performances by Eastern's Percussion Ensemble, Percussion Group, World Percussion Ensemble, Korean Samul Ensemble and students in the Music Cultures of the World class. The concerts, which were presented on Dec. 3 and 7, were comprised of diverse and entertaining musical selections that featured timpani, snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, triangle and tambourine. Emily Miclon of Enfield, who majors in Political Science, played percussion as a part of the Eastern Percussion Group and World Percussion Ensemble.
- Music students at Eastern Connecticut State University presented "Sounds of the Season" on Dec. 6, a concert designed to capture the beauty of the winter season. The instrumental performance featured the Eastern Wind Ensemble and Concert Band, and occured in the Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Instructional Center. Among the student musicians were Emily Miclon of Enfield, who majors in Political Science and Music and played percussion in the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble, and Allison Smolenski of Enfield, who majors in Criminology and plays clarinet in the Concert Band. Conducted by Kelly Watkins, adjunct professor of music, both the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band presented four selections.
- Eastern Connecticut State University English enthusiasts recently gathered for English Night, an event that showcases student excellence in the English Department. Hosted by Department Chair Professor Barbara Liu, the event featured a scholarship awards ceremony, the Sigma Tau Delta induction and three Capstone Seminar presentations. Jessica Miclon of Enfield was one of the students that was recognized at English Night. Miclon's major is English and Sociology. Miclon was inducted into the Alpha Epsilon Delta chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society.
