NEW HAVEN, CT — Taylor Geaglone earned a lot of accolades during her outstanding field hockey career, first at Enfield High School and then the University of New Haven. Her honors have now extended to a national level, with her being named this week as a Division II All-American first-team selection by Synapse Sports.

Playing her final season as a graduate student after the 2020 campaign was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Geaglone led the Chargers to their second straight postseason appearance. A midfielder/defender, she scored four goals, including two game-winners, and added five assists in 2022. She made the All-Northeast 10 Conference first team and was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year.

"Finding out this great news just puts a cherry on top of my season," Geaglone told Patch. "I could not have done it without my teammates, coaches and family. They made me want to consistently work hard for them and myself. I love the game of field hockey and am grateful for everything it has brought me throughout my career."

Geaglone came to New Haven following a tremendous 4-year run at Enfield High School. She scored 59 goals and added 35 assists in her scholastic career, earning the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Player of the Year award in 2017. She led the Eagles to the Class L semifinals in 2016 and 2017, earned All-State honors three times and All-Central Connecticut Conference accolades four times. She also excelled in the classroom as a member of the National Honor Society.

New Haven began its field hockey program with a winless season in 2017, but Geaglone's arrival helped spark a decided improvement over the next few years. She made the NE-10 All-Rookie team and made third-team All-Conference as a freshman, duplicating the latter feat as a sophomore.

Coming back after the missed 2020 season, New Haven earned its first NE-10 tournament appearance in 2021. Geaglone was named to the All-Conference second team, setting the stage for her remarkable efforts this fall.

She wound up her Chargers career as the program's all-time assist leader with 13, tied for third with 10 goals, and is second in points with 33. Additionally, she was named to the Northeast-10 All-Academic honor roll each year.

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association placed Geaglone on their All-American second team.
