Council Gets Update On Raffia Road Project

Town Council members relayed concerns of their constituents at Monday's meeting.

Road work on a main artery in southern Enfield is progressing slowly, and Town Council members addressed the concern of constituents at Monday's council meeting.

For several months, Raffia Road has been under reconstruction, causing delays and potentially dangerous driving conditions. In April, Councilman Joseph Bosco noted that the large gravel being used to fill in the cutout sections of the road were a hazard, and that the fill was not staying in place.

At Monday's meeting, Councilwoman Cindy Mangini said she is pleased that some improvements have been made. Councilwoman Carol Hall echoed those sentiments, and asked if a timeline was available for both the Raffia Road and Town Farm Road projects. Bosco and Councilman Patrick Crowley made similar requests to Town Manager Matt Coppler.

Coppler reported, "Raffia Road should be done by the end of summer to early fall. This week they will be going out and putting asphalt in the cutout areas."

The limited use of sidewalks during the project has been a concern to many residents, particularly parents of children who walk to nearby Kennedy Middle School. The sidewalks will be repaired on one side of the road to ensure at least one side has functioning sidewalks at all times. It was also noted that the Raffia Road project, while projected to be complete by early fall, technically can go into November.
