Bomb Squad Called To Enfield, Police Say

The investigation began with a complaint involving threats toward workers at the new Amazon jobsite.

ENFIELD, CT — An investigation into a threat complaint led police to an Enfield home, where officers found what appeared to be a WWII-era mortar round, police said.

The Enfield Police Department said department personnel received a complaint earlier Monday involving a male subject who had threatened violence toward workers at the new Amazon facility jobsite.

Officers went to the man’s home at 4 Lake Drive to try to interview him, police said. Police said the man was initially unwilling to speak with officers but later agreed to allow them limited entry into the home so they could take possession of firearms while the investigation continued.

Police said there is no immediate reason to expect the munition will become active or detonate at this point.

Department personnel expect to apply for a search warrant for the home. Police said bomb squad personnel will then be used to make the item and location safe, a process expected to take several hours.
