Couples Leads at Midway Point of Senior Players Championship
Former Masters champion has one-stroke advantage through two rounds at Westchester Country Club in Harrison, N.Y.
Looking for something to do this weekend? Just a 90-minute drive away from north central Connecticut, some of the best golfers in the world are teeing it up for a major championship.
Fred Couples holds a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship, the final major on the Champions Tour.
Six weeks ago, Couples was in Germany, receiving unusual treatment for his longstanding back problems. The procedure has worked like a charm thus far, as he shot a 5-under-par 66 Friday at the famed Westchester Country Club West course in Harrison, N.Y., putting him at 8-under at the midway point.

"I drove the ball very well, and I didn't make many mistakes," Couples said. " I don't want to say I left any out there. I did miss a couple but I made a few too, so it was a good day."
A stroke behind is Australian Peter Senior, who followed his opening-round 66 with a 69 Friday.

"(Yesterday) was probably not as good as (Thursday), I hit a couple of bad tee shots," Senior said. "It's always good to be in a position like this, with a lot of good players at the top. It will be a good weekend."
Couples and Senior will tee off in the final threesome at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. They will play with Corey Pavin, who is alone in third at 6-under after a 69 Friday.
"I drove the ball better (yesterday), but scored better (Thursday)," Pavin said. "All types of players can win here - the mark of a great golf course. I like hard golf courses; every aspect of your game gets tested."
John Cook is alone in fourth at 5-under, and three players are at 4-under, including first-round leader Jeff Sluman, who struggled to a 73 Friday after posting a brilliant 65 in the opening round.
Tickets are still available at the gate; for those unable to attend in person, live coverage will be provided by The Golf Channel from 3-6 p.m.
