CT DEEP and Saint Martha School Team Up at Saint Martha’s Pond
Saint Martha School hosted the CT DEEP, who held fishing classes and stocked the Saint Martha's Pond
The Saint Martha School teamed up with the State of Connecticut DEEP (Department of Energy and Environmental Protection), and hosted an introduction to fishing class, followed by a hands on releasing of stocked trout into Saint Martha's Pond, and then completed the class with teaching how to catch the fish afterwards. The DEEP arrived Thursday, April 25th and taught an in-classroom lesson on knot tying and the different types of native and non-native fish located here in Connecticut. They then brought the children outside to teach them all how to cast. On Saturday, April 27th, the DEEP returned with a large amount of fishing poles and 150 trout for the students, families, and friends of the students to stock themselves into the pond. Once all of the fish were released, the newly taught anglers were able to use DEEP poles set up to catch trout and the DEEP staff supervised as well as assisted all of the children and families in catching the trout. In addition to trout being caught, there were some bluegills and even some catfish that were hauled in. To see much more of all of this action, please take a look at the Saint Martha Facebook page for all of the excitement and then visit Saint Martha’s Pond to enjoy the fishing yourself!
