Deadly I-91 Crash Update: Woman Killed After Stopped Vehicles Hit In Enfield

State police said two vehicles were already stopped when a third struck them on I-91 south in Enfield.

ENFIELD, CT — A crash that shut down Interstate 91 south near Exit 46 Monday afternoon has turned deadly, Connecticut State Police confirmed, with a Bloomfield woman dying from her injuries.

State police said the crash happened around 2:42 p.m. on I-91 southbound in Enfield, where two vehicles were already stopped in the roadway because of an earlier collision. A third vehicle traveling south struck one of the stopped vehicles, triggering a chain-reaction crash.

Police identified the woman who died as Sabria Hardy, 38, of Bloomfield, a passenger in one of the stopped vehicles. She was transported to Hartford Hospital with critical injuries and later died, according to the State Police accident summary.

The driver of that vehicle, a 35-year-old Enfield man, was taken to the hospital with suspected minor injuries. The driver of the third vehicle, a 49-year-old North Carolina man, complained of pain at the scene but declined medical treatment, police said.

According to state police, the vehicles involved were a 2021 Acura ILX, a 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander, and a 2025 Jeep Compass. All three vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene.

The crash prompted a full closure of I-91 southbound near Exit 46 for several hours while Troop H conducted its investigation and cleared the roadway.

State police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash — including drivers who may have dash-cam video from the area at the time — to contact Trooper First Class John Wilson at Troop H as the investigation continues.
