ENFIELD, CT — The biennial debates between Democratic and Republican candidates for town council and Board of Education will apparently not take place this year, as leaders from both parties sent a joint letter to Enfield Public Schools officials declining the offer to participate.

The letter, addressed to Superintendent of Schools Chris Drezek, reads:

Sean Patrick Crane, social studies department head at Enfield High School and co-advisor to the Youth Vote Committee, said, "We were informed by the Enfield Public Schools superintendent’s office that the Youth Vote debates/forums would not be taking place this year. Our Youth Vote Committee is, however, hosting a Meet the Candidates Night at 6 p.m. at John F. Kennedy Middle School on Monday, Oct. 28. We are inviting all of the local candidates who are on the election ballot to participate, and we encourage members of the public to attend."
